Introduction

This week, I write a new creator economy manifesto. I’ve had enough coded language.

From Kamala Harris catching strays,  from whoring VP Comms , from Tim Ferriss meat riders.

Are we going to run forever?

It is Friday morning in Israel. Pleasant fall weather in the mid 20s.

It will soon be Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, 2 weeks shy on the Jewish calendar of the Simchat Torah massacre on Oct 7, 2023. 

From Islamic enemies in a war on 7 fronts.

We are fighting.

I feel like a stranger in a strange land on social media. 

It’s entertaining, but not much more.  As a channel for promoting my books, and selling my program for people aged 45-60, I have not cracked the code yet. Perhaps X and LinkedIn are bad distribution channels for older people who want to turn their expertise into independence.

But I digress.  My mind wanders.

I am not the only one on social media who feels like  a stranger in a strange land.

The misuse of language in America

In his candid and impassioned post on X, Torrey Dawley expresses deep frustration with the misuse of language in America today.

He criticizes the tendency to stigmatize or shy away from straightforward terms like "sales," "solopreneur," and "networking," which have been unfairly associated with negative connotations such as sleaziness or superficiality. Dawley condemns the flood of corporate gobbledy—phrases like "synergistic alignment" and "leveraging agile disruption"—that obfuscate simple concepts.

I thought that the post did not get the attention it deserved, although there were exceptional comments from Kieran Drew, Sebastian Hidalgo and Jeanne Torre.   

Torrey argues that America’s race to invent new language to escape basic values of clarity and simplicity is a race to a meaningless society in an endless politically-correct popularity contest

If we run like spineless cowards from coded language we make more room for the insane, for the Harrises, for the Ferrisses and the millions of their mindless followers.

He calls on us, those at the forefront of the new economy, to "grow a spine" and reclaim the clarity and utility of plain language. He urges us  to unite against the mischaracterization of basic business activities and to stop creating unnecessary problems through excessive linguistic sensitivity. 

By standing together and giving others the benefit of the doubt, he believes we can overcome external challenges from "grifters, governments, and the MegaCorps" and shape the future of business. 

He concludes with a rallying cry for solidarity and action: "What do you say?"

I say that we need to write a manifesto for the creator economy.

The Creator Economy Manifesto

We are the architects of a new era—a community of creators redefining the landscape of work, art, and innovation. We reject the noise, the fluff, and the meaningless jargon that dilute our purpose. This manifesto embodies our 5 core values:

1. Clarity

 We speak plainly and honestly and without fear.  No more hiding behind gobbledy or coded language. Our ideas are powerful because they're clear. We communicate with intention, ensuring our message is understood without confusion or misinterpretation.

2. Simplicity

 Complexity for its own sake is the refuge of the insecure. We strip away the unnecessary to focus on what truly matters. By embracing simplicity, we make our work accessible and impactful. We design, create, and innovate with elegance and efficiency.

3. Workmanship

Anything worth doing is worth doing well. We take pride in our craft, pouring our skill and passion into every project. Quality isn't a goal; it's a standard. We are relentless in our pursuit of excellence, knowing that our work is a reflection of ourselves.

4. Respect

In a world where we all have alternatives, we value respect. We commit to responding to our customers and collaborators within one hour. This isn't just about speed—it's about respect. We respect the time and trust that others place in us by being present and engaged with them.

5. Consistency

Talk is cheap; action is everything. We don't just pay lip service to the principles of this manifest —we live by them. 

We execute our work to these values at least 80% of the time. We're not perfect, but we're dedicated. We hold ourselves accountable and strive to improve every single day.

This is our stand. 

We won't be sidetracked by social or silenced by fear or bludgeoned by big tech.

We're here to build, to connect, and to lead.
